Upcoming Deadline for Dust Control / Calcium Chloride Application
Houghton County will be applying Calcium Chloride for dust control this summer in Laird Township. They are planning for the week of June 15, 2026. The price this year is $75 for one shot, or $150 for two shots. The shots will be 100′ long x 12′ wide. If you are interested, please call Pat Spencer at 906-338-2771 or send an email with name and address to: lairdtwp@up.net. All orders must be paid for in advance and are due by May 17, 2026. The payment can be mailed to: Laird Township, PO Box 9, Nisula, MI 49952. Make checks payable to Laird Township.

Town Hall Rental
Our Town Hall building is available to rent for meetings, family reunions, parties, etc. There is a fully equipped kitchen, tables and chairs, and a bathroom on the lower level. The upper level has a small basketball court, bathrooms and a stage.
For Residents
May 1 – Oct 31: One floor is $50 per day + $100 deposit. Both floors is $100 per day + $100 deposit.
Nov 1 – April 30: One floor is $100 per day + $100 deposit. Both floors is $150 per day + $100 deposit.
For Non-Residents
May 1 – Oct 31: $200 per day + $100 deposit for both floors.
Nov 1 – April 30: $325 per day + $100 deposit for both floors.
Nisula Church Building Rental
Nisula Church building is available for rental. It is not available during winter months as it is not plowed, nor does it have heat.
For Residents
$200 per day + $100 deposit
For Non-Residents
$300 per day + $100 deposit
Pavilion Rental
Pavilion Rental is a $60 deposit that will be returned if the area is cleaned up.
Cleaning prior to and after rental is required.
Transfer Station
Location: 23933 Alston Cemetery Road
Hours: Saturdays 10:00am to 2:00pm 12 months a year and Tuesdays 5:00pm to 7:00pm May-November. Cost is $3.00 (large bag) or $2.00 (small bag). Dumping/leaving trash outside these hours is strictly prohibited.
All Garbage is to be bagged in Township bags which are available for purchase at ALK Contracting or at the Transfer station while it is open.
Disposing of garbage that is in ”store bought” bags or not bagged is strictly prohibited.
Fire Department
Location: 12075 M-38
The Laird Township Fire Department has four pieces of equipment, three of which are equipped with four wheel drive to respond when road conditions require.
We are always looking for volunteer Firefighters.

Laird Township is Hiring!
Laird Township has an opening for a Custodian for the Township Hall and occasional cleaning at the Concession area at the ballfield. The hours are as needed at the direction of the Board, and hourly wage is negotiable, depending on experience. Cleaning supplies will be provided. General knowledge of basic custodial duties is required. Please submit your letter of interest or resume to the Laird Township Board by 6:30 p.m. on June 10, 2026, by mail to PO Box 9, Nisula, MI 49952, emailed to lairdtwp@up.net, or dropped off at the Town Hall or to a board member.
